My Ridiculously Talented Friends: Doug Jones

When I was a kid my cousin Dougie was one of my favorite relatives, due largely to the fact that he is fun, hilarious, gives great hugs, and, let’s face it, made me realize that long, gangly arms and legs are COOL.

Thankfully I have grown into my own lanky appendages, but Dougie has done even more: creating a career for himself as a versatile actor who is one of Hollywood’s most appreciated and lauded mimic-ers, oftentimes wearing pounds of makeup and still delivering performances with subtle nuance and finesse.

You might have seen him as the Silver Surfer (The Silver Surfer), Abe Sapian (Hellboy, Hellboy 2), in numerous Sci-Fi roles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Doom, and as pretty much ALL of the super-awesome/scary characters in Pan’s Labyrinth.

(Oh snap. Here come the nightmares)

Now unstoppable Doug Jones has gone back to his mime roots to release “Mime Very Own Book,” a tongue-in-cheek coffee table creation put together with the talents of Scott Allen Perry, Adam Mock, and photographer Eric Curtis.

Hey Friends! I’m making a new CD!

After working with Dallas Kruse and the Zion Studios famile in Santa Ana last year I realized I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to make an album with…so we’re doing it again!

Our goal is to raise funds on Kickstarter to make all this music-y stuff possible, and I think we can do it with your help! Every pledge gets somethin’ cool, from pre-release downloads to hand-made postcards to cover song video dedications to lunches with the Zion clan! Every little bit can help us to make this album incredible.

Hannah Glavor is my friend. She has a voice that melts into your soul like butter on popcorn, or butter on corn on the cob, or butter on fresh biscuits, or pretty much anything else that butter tastes so frickin’ delicious on (um…everything?). She came to my house to sing my with me in my kitchen. We both wore plaid, because this is a country song. We were a little bit silly at first, but then we got serious. Because this song is serious. Seriously. (Lies, it’s actually kind of tongue in cheek. Because, just so you know, Hannah is not actually a hussy). Listen and enjoy! And check out more Hannah HERE and support her first album!

House Shows (and Tell)

Kara’s mom passed away from cancer 15 years ago this week. I never got to meet her, but I hear she was beautiful, and wonderful, and special. This doesn’t surprise me as she made my beautiful and wonderful and special friend. I love her very much, and this is her song.

Arockalypse Now

Well friends, I’ve been getting plenty of guff (yes, I said “guff”) for not updating my website, and I do apologize. It’s just that I heard rumors that the rapture was happening today, and I didn’t feel like wasting my last days on earth typey-typing on the internets. So instead I’ve spent the last few months surfing like THIS, eating mangoes like THIS, and writing songs like THIS.

Not a bad run of it, eh? I’d say the last few months have been awesome, and if it’s time to go, it’s time to go. But as I sit here eating an almost croissant and drinking a latte, and I don’t see people telaporting in front of my very eyes, I’m gonna assume we all have a few more chuckles to be had on planet earth.

Which brings me to my point: I’m back! And ready to sing some songs! I will be recording this summer with the beefiest of all beef-cake producers, Dallas Kruse, and I’m also going to be doing some mini house show tours. House shows are basically when I play in a house, and people sit around and drink wine, and eat cheese, or have a cook-out, and it’s all in all a super rad evening of music in your very own abode! I’d love it if you wanted to host one in your home, or or friend’s backyard (note: get permission from said friend). Here’s the Tentative Schedule:

mid June to end of July: north and south California,

August: East Coast (DC to Montreal)

September: Northwest and Beyond (Seattle, Bend, Boise, Salt Lake, Bozeman, Missoula, Spokane)

October: Arizona, Southern California, and possibly a stop in Denver/Boulder area

Lastly, just in case I mis-judged and these will be the last things I ever type to you, I encourage you heartily to go HERE.

Holy Smokes! Verbicide Mag picked me as the judges’ choice for their 2010 Unsigned Artist contest, which basically means I get a lot of awesome music-promoting stuff (stickers and buttons–YES!), serious bragging rights at fancy dinner parties, and a killer feature article on their website!
